Salinas Swimwear 2012 - Sweet as Candy!

Salinas Swimwear 2012 is just as fresh and sweet as always, with new and novel details and that cute, albeit small, Salinas fit. Actually, this season we will be offering some more moderate bottoms from Salinas. (Is that a sigh of relief I hear from you?) I'm gushing over their adorable, surfer girl bikini in a preppy, geometric print!

Salinas Swimwear has also been known for their great, original prints and this year's collection does not disappoint. Check out the rainbow photoprint fabric used in this swimsuit:

Or, the unique artwork in this printed bikini:

Salinas likes to put some attention grabbing details into all of their bikinis. That's one thing that makes them so special. I'm infatuated with the pom-poms at the end of the strings, not to mention the killer, turk and white print.

One of the reasons that I feel that Salinas has had such a long run in the beach fashion world is that it's a swimwear label that can cross over into different age groups. The 20-somethings love the fun and sexiness of their, "bitty booty,"styles, but the junior set can still get away with wearing some of their younger, more moderate looks.  In other words, they’re not just a passing fad.

The Junior-Teen Swimwear Line-Up for 2011

There's that age...that glorious age in a woman's life...somewhere between playing baseball with the neighborhood kids and tossing a baseball to your own child...those fabulous years when you could eat just about anything and not gain an ounce.   It's that time when all the older women hated you as you strutted down the beach in your brand new, teeny-tiny bikini with not a care in the world.

"Junior-Teen," isn't quite the right term for that age group, but for lack of a better word, we'll use it here, today.  A lot of swimwear these days just does not take into account that this girl is special.  The swimwear designers just do, "one style fits all age groups," designs in hope of catering to everyone of every age and perhaps saving a bit of money in production.  We appreciate those designers that take notice and really know how to show off a young woman's assets AND they know how to have some fun with swimwear fashion.  They also know that fit and sizing is just a little bit different than the Missy set...a little smaller over all, but they still need a bikini top with support and not everyone wants to show off ALL of their booty.  Junior-Teen designers have finally figured out that not every teen even wants a bikini.  It's been refreshing to see some super cute one piece swimsuits in the 2011 swimwear collections.

So, which are the top Jr.-Teen swimwear lines this year?  I'd place my money on Maaji Swimwear and I certainly wouldn't count out Salinas Swimwear for 2011.  And although, the Agua Bendita Swimwear fit is just a tad larger than Jr., I would have to include them too.  (See my posts below for examples and pix of these lines.)  All of these lines have fresh designs and new takes on the 1 piece swimsuit.  I'm hoping to uncover even more new Jr.-Teen lines.  Designers step up to the plate!  Perhaps just as soon as this economy straightens out, we will have more brave souls.

Salinas Swimwear 2011 - What's In Store For This Iconic Swimwear Brand?

Ya just gotta love Salinas Swimwear...they've kept it all together during these turbulent times and still managed to come up with some cute, new, cleverly styled bikinis.  The 2011 Salinas Swimwear Collection is now being unveiled at Tropi-Ties and it's to die for.  They've gone sweet on us this year and put up some sexy, little, ruffled numbers, done in feminine florals.

They've also gone bright and  bold in 2011 with a rainbow plaid bikini.
Bikinis and prints aren't the only thing that Salinas Swimwear did well this season.  They have a couple of eye catching one piece swimsuits, as well as a sexy, black, tasseled bikini that personally, I just love.

Salinas Swimwear is a master at blurring the line between a young, junior/teen look and a grown up girl style.  I think that's why everyone loves them so much.  That, and that true sense of fun that is inherent in each and every Salinas swimsuit.  They've managed to keep their prices reasonable too.  (Although, I have to say that the most expensive ones tend to be my favorites...such is life.)

The 2011 Salinas Swimwear is arriving this fall.  Stop by and preview the new Salinas Swimwear Collection before it hits the shelves at Tropi-Ties Swimwear

Salinas Swimwear - We Still love it!

After all this time, I still love Salinas Swimwear.  Tropi-Ties began carrying the Salinas brand back in 1999.  We were the very first online retailers to stock their sweet, little bikinis.  I have to say, I wasn't really keen on carrying Salinas at first.  It seemed like it was just another one of many Brazilian bikini labels to have hit our shores during that time.  Shelly Scott, the rep for Salinas back then, politely and continually prodded me to stop by their booth at ASR.  One day I finally did.  I could not believe how cute the stuff was!  With lots of, "I told you so," comments coming from Shelly, I reviewed the line. There were unique bodies with loads of sex appeal, not to mention tiny bums, done up in fun colors and prints, with embroidery, sequins and other embellishments...just adorable!  I had not seen anything like it in the California surf market, or the entire US, for that matter.  The price point was great too.  Oddly enough, I was the only buyer in their booth that day.  It was hard to believe that the word had not yet gotten out about these fab Brazilian bikinis. Of course, that didn't last for long.  The following season the Salinas booth was twice the size and it was standing room only.

Salinas quickly became our number one seller and really helped to build our own company.  It flew off the shelves as quickly as it came in.  Everyone, including our warehouse staff, could hardly wait to see the what the newest shipments revealed.  Every bikini was a surprise.  All of the people from Salinas were wonderful and business relationships were good and strong.  Salinas was now distributed everywhere in the US, including major department stores, surf shops and online retailers.

But then came the economy.  Although all of us have struggled through these rough times, Salinas took it especially hard.  Sales slackened, their trusted distribution faltered and a new generation of swimsuit buyers, none savvy to this iconic brand, emerged.  The flow of merchandise slowed to a crawl and it looked like the end for them.  I reluctantly continued to carry their bikinis, partly because I felt a sense of loyalty, partly out of hope that they would return to their former glory.  They toughed it out and kept the brand going.

As the economy comes out of this recession, we're now seeing a change for the better for Salinas.  The designs are fresh and sassy and with new US distributors, the merchandise flow is making headway again. Young women are rediscovering Salinas Swimwear and sales are coming back.  The new 2011 Salinas bikinis are cuter than ever and we expect strong sales for this brand next season. I am confident that they will make a full recovery and be back even better than ever.

Fashion Rio Summer 2011 - Ahhh...The Swimwear!

Rio's hot ticket to fashion kicked off this week, with their 17th Fashion Rio Summer 2011 show, held at Praça Mauá.  The show began on Thursday and will run until June 1st.  The theme for this season is ‘360º City on the Move’.

Two of our favorite swimwear designers, Salinas Swimwear, by Jacqueline de Biase and Lenny Niemeyer, for LENNY Swimwear, have already shown their wares, with Salinas showing on day one, followed by LENNY on day 2. (Images, Associated Press)
